Mirissa is the largest fishing port on the southern coast between Galle and Matara, and a popular location for its beach, thriving nightlife and for being one of the best whale and dolphin watching locations on the island. During the months of December to March, you are able to catch a sighting of these gentle aquatic giants as they move between the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. At such times, you will be able to sight the likes of the majestic Blue Whale, Sperm Whale, or even spinner dolphins.

Located south of Matara and Dondra Head, which is also home to Sri Lanka’s tallest lighthouse, the Dondra Lighthouse. Built by the British, which magnificent structure allows splendid panorama views of the seas, the bays and the sandy coast dotted with slanting coconut trees. With special permission, you are able to climb to the top and take it in all for yourself.
