Dambulla
An isolated rock that is 500ft in height, the Dambulla Golden Rock Temple complex has a vibrant history dating as back as 1BC. King Walagamba who was exiled from Anuradhapura due to a rebellion and a South Indian invasion, sought refuge with the monks living in the monastery in the caves. The present Golden Rock Temple came to be when King Walagamba upon his return to his throne, he showed his gratitude by renovating the five caves including intricate art and statues. It was King Nissankamalla who gave the temple its name by having the caves gilded. It will take approximately 45 minutes to tour this Sri Lankan historical and religious attraction, that has been well-preserved over the centuries.
Between the neighbouring wildlife national parks of Minneriya and Kaudulla, there are 9000 hectacres of greenery and their own reservoirs making ideal habitats for the animals calling it their home . Popular sightings include the wild elephants, leopards, deer and the variety of indigenous and migratory birds. During dry seasons, of June to October, they flock to the reservoir tanks to hydrate themselves, cool off and bathe making for great wildlife photography.
Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of Sri Lanka’s iconic historical landmarks. To locals it is worthy to be named the 8th Wonder of the World for its advanced defensive architectural designs and use of hydraulic technology and engineering. Touring this Sri Lankan historical attraction will take close to 1 ½ hours and we recommend climbing the summit well before noon to avoid the heat and sun. Built in 5BC by King Kasyapa, there is much history associated with the building of the Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress, including feuding dynasties, regicide and more!
The ancient city of Polonnaruwa in the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka is considered a UNESCO World Heritage site. There are many ruins that still stand tall giving us insight into what was in the past!
Knuckles
The Knuckles Mountain Range offers amazing panoramic views; it is renowned for its prominent peaks, and the wilderness within, including dense forests, picturesque waterways, fauna and flora! Trek through the mountain range to explore the wildlife!
Kithulgala
This is an area with tropical rainforests, winding rivers and an undulating terrain. Kitulgala owes its popularity to the Kelani River that offers exciting Level-4 white water rafting, canoeing or hiking.
Mirissa
Mirissa is renowned for its pristine beaches and offers great conditions for water sports activities. Located in the south of the island of Sri Lanka, you can truly indulge in some sun, sea and surf! Dondra, the cape of the southern tip of the island offers a large range of attractions, out of which whale and dolphin watching is one of the most popular attractions!
